What Do Yoga Socks Do To You
Dec 23, 2023
Yoga socks are certainly not a prerequisite for a successful and satisfying yoga practice, but they can significantly help yoga practitioners gain confidence in certain poses to sink deeper into without fear of slipping and falling. However, the benefits of wearing yoga socks go far beyond the extra grip. Here are some additional benefits yoga socks bring to your yoga practice.
Protect your feet. Unless you're doing yoga at home, there's always the chance of contracting some nasty foot bacteria. Yoga studios often have strict no-shoe policies, so if walking on the studio floor or working out barefoot on a rented mat gives you the creeps, yoga socks can protect your skin from fungus and other viruses, so do not worry.
Keeps you warm. Whether it's winter or the studio air conditioning is on full blast, some people tend to feel cold during a yoga class. I personally get cold feet all year round no matter what the temperature is outside. Yoga socks will keep your feet comfortable and warm so you can turn your full attention to your practice.
Wicks away sweat. Yoga socks will keep your feet cool and dry during intense movements and absorb excess sweat for ultimate comfort.
Allowing you to hold poses longer. Slipping in Downward Dog or Warrior Pose usually means your body isn't strong enough yet. Yoga socks provide you with extra traction so you can focus on breathing, alignment, holding poses longer, and gradually building necessary muscle strength.
Make yoga practice easy on the go. I absolutely love my Manduka eKO yoga mat (read detailed review here ). But I wouldn't want to carry it or a yoga towel with me when I travel. Since I don't want to stop practicing either, yoga socks offer a lightweight alternative for safer, non-slip practice on hotel tiles and wooden floors or even on wet grass in the garden.
Give you peace of mind. For example, if you just don't like practicing barefoot, or you want to cover your feet from others due to specific health issues, then yoga socks can come in handy.
